STIMULATION

Dermaneedling – At Home or in the Studio?

One of the most effective treatments for stimulating collagen and elastin production. But where do you achieve the best results – at home or with a professional in the studio?

Safety: Theory vs. Practice

In dermaneedling (microneedling), fine needles create controlled micro-injuries that trigger the skin’s natural repair processes: collagen and elastin production increase, and the skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more even.

In theory, dermaneedling can be performed at home – if strict hygiene standards are followed: sterile needles, disinfected skin, a clean working environment, and proper aftercare. In practice, however, experience shows: where mistakes can be made, they will be made (Doctorly, 2023).

Risks of At-Home Dermaneedling

Improper application can have serious consequences:

  • Infections due to insufficiently sterilized devices or poor skin preparation
  • Scarring caused by incorrect pressure, unsuitable needle length, or repeated trauma
  • Bruising and vascular damage from improper technique
  • Worsening of existing skin conditions, such as acne, eczema, or rosacea

Scientific literature explicitly warns that incorrect home microneedling can lead to permanent skin damage (Singh & Yadav, 2016).

Professional Needling: More Than Just Safety

In a professional studio, clients benefit from much more than sterile single-use cartridges and trained staff:

  • Individual skin analysis and selection of the optimal needle length for skin type and indication
  • Professional-grade equipment for precise, uniform microperforation and more effective stimulation
  • Targeted aftercare to optimally support skin regeneration

On top of that, the studio experience offers an important feel-good factor: expert consultation, relaxation, and the assurance of being in professional hands.

Conclusion

Dermaneedling is a highly effective procedure to visibly rejuvenate the skin and improve overall skin texture. While numerous DIY tools are available online, caution is advised: the best results with maximum safety are always achieved in a professional setting.
